81% Smartphone Use Android in Q3 2013

The analysts at Strategy Analytics recently posted a report on global smartphone shipments during the third quarter of 2013 . For the three-month period , more than 251 million smartphones were shipped worldwide . The figure indicates a significant growth of 45% from last year's shipments of 172.8 million in Q3 2012. The main drivers of rapid growth is presumably due to " skyrocketing " demand for Android and Windows Phone devices in Europe and Asia .

Strategy Analytics said that Android controlled 81 % share of the global smartphone sales of 204.4 million units . Google's dominance in the smartphone market can be described that four of the five smartphones that exist in the world today is Android . Strategy Analytics also shows how Google 's mobile OS continues to gain user base ' former ' customers BlackBerry and Apple . The market share of the Canadian smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry getting dropped from 4 percent in Q3 2012 to just 1 percent in this year . The combination of smartphones running BlackBerry OS 10 sold only 2.5 million for this quarter . For comparison , in Q3 2012 BlackBerry managed to sell 7.5 million units .

  

The most shocking reports coming out of Redmond , Washington . Microsoft Windows Phone managed to peddle as much as 10.2 million smartphones in the quarter . Numbers that are farthest jump as much as 178 % from 3.7 million units sold in Q3 last year . As a result , the share of the smartphone market growing companies doubled from 2 percent to 4 percent within one year .

  

Windows Phone 's success is mainly due to the success of the Nokia Lumia series in Europe , Asia , and the United States . Strategy Analytics shows Windows Phone is still struggling to lure mobile users in Japan , Korea , and South Africa .
