micro-blogging site Twitter has just introduced a new feature to its
iOS version of the application, ie, Bing Translate, which is supported
by a team of Microsoft. Twitter app on the Apple device will now have the ability to translate
tweets posted in a language that is different from the default, then
you will see a pop-up to be clicked if the user wants the translation of
the tweet.
However,
similar to the existing machine translation in today's virtual world,
they do not work like a human translator, who knows all the nuances and
different contexts being discussed. However, Bing Translate seems pretty good in keeping the context, but
when talking about the diction or choice of words, they are not always
the most accurate all the time.
Given this relatively new feature, so the user should be wise in critiquing their performance. With some improvement over time, hopefully more stable feature and
change for the better in the future, and is immediately available in
other platforms.
Twitter is actually first in order to work with Microsoft's Bing Translate to introduce Windows Phone application. But
it seems a good omen came to bring the machine translation in the iOS
platform first, to be addressed further in improving the service.
