Siri Successfully Hacked , Can Upload Photos Instagram Through Sound
In the biggest competition of hackers , Hackathon PennApps Spring 2014 , a group of youths managed to hack Siri with a project called googolplex . Hacking the iPhone allows users to control third-party applications with Siri without the need to jailbreak . This is the first ( and only ) hack Siri for iOS 7 ever.
Ajay Patel , Alex Sands , Ben Hsu , and Gagan Gupta , four M & T program students at the University of Pennsylvania , developed a googolplex after frustration with the limitations on the Siri feature .
Googolplex allows Siri to integrate with applications and hardware with custom commands such as " Turn on the lights . " This setup only takes one minute and without jailbreak . Googolplex allows you to play a song on Spotify , pay friends through Venmo , selfie on Instagram , and Philips Hue light control , with simple voice commands , all via Siri .
The team of hackers are promising integration with other third party applications googolplex " in the future . "
Googolplex takes about 20 seconds to make and involves the addition of an HTTP proxy for the iPhone WiFi settings . According to the hacker , hacking exploits using Man - In-The -Middle ( MITM ) which directs the request to the proxy server Siri , Siri by tricking DNS servers so that the server receives the request of students .
Apple never took a hard stance against hackers in the past , a similar lethal named SiriProxy hack in July 2012 . Somehow Apple will react to innovative hacking of the student . Hopefully Apple realizes that there are some people who want to do more than just set the timer with Siri and expanding its function , not only close the gap .
Or maybe Apple should hire this student hackers ?
Googolplex successfully won the third position of more than 220 projects are matched . You can try to get into http://betterthansiri.com from the Safari browser on the iPhone . And you should try it soon . Here's a video demonstrating the central team googolplex .
