Android Dominates 81% Smartphone Market
CALIFORNIA - The operating system ( OS ) Android controlled 81.3 percent of the global smartphone market in the quarter III/2013 . According to research firm Strategy Analytics , the number was up from 75 percent in the same quarter last year .
Reported by Cnet , on Friday ( 11/01/2013 ) , Android phone shipments totaled 204.4 million units in the quarter III/2013 , up from 129.6 million compared to the same period last year . Meanwhile , Apple ( iOS ) took second place but fell to 13.4 percent from 15.6 percent, with total shipments of 33.8 million units of smartphones .
" Apple experienced deterioration due to absent in the low-end smartphone market . Should take chances Android shipments from Apple if the OS is still grow in the future , but not in the near future given the iPhone 5S was popular and will help Apple in the quarter IV/2013 , "said Strategy Analytics senior analyst Scott Bicheno .
Strategy Analytics also details other mobile OS market share in the quarter III/2013 with comparisons to the same period last year . Furthermore , Windows Phone came in third with 4.1 percent market share rose from 2.1 percent to total shipments of 10.2 million units , up from 3.7 million units .
